Senior Packaging Technologist

An exciting opportunity has come up as a Senior Packaging Technologist supporting the Branded and Breakthrough Innovation team. This role will be accountable for bringing new packaging concepts to market that meet both Ingham’s and our customer’s needs and for helping us to deliver on our sustainability agenda.

Our purpose is to deliver deliciously good food in the best way, and you will play a key role by helping to deliver on this purpose through innovative and sustainable packaging. This is a unique opportunity with 100% ownership for packaging innovation all of which is owned and driven by the Australian and New Zealand businesses.

This is a newly created role in a relatively new team so we are seeking a driven individual who will make this role their own, and who enjoys working autonomously to create and deliver new ideas and concepts.

Responsibilities include:

  • Keep up to date with new and emerging packaging technologies
  • Make recommendations on incorporating new technologies into new products in a way that meets both customer, operations and sustainability requirements
  • Work collaboratively and partner with the product development and operations teams to co-ordinate and run packaging trials for products in the NPD pipeline.
  • Work collaboratively with our suppliers to bring new packaging concepts to market.
  • Develop, maintain and manage technical packaging specifications for new products.
  • Manage technical aspects of artwork in partnership with design agencies, operations and suppliers.
  • Identify and lead packaging optimisation and cost saving projects.
  • Look at trends and insights with future growth options in packaging and printing to meet future needs of the consumer
  • Establish and build relationships with partners and vendors to drive product differentiation based on market trends and pipeline analysis.

We’re interested in people who can bring

  • A Bachelor’s degree or relevant packaging/design/science/engineering qualification but not compulsory
  • Experience in food manufacturing industry preferred but not essential.
  • Demonstrated ability to transform consumer understanding into new packaging concepts.
  • Knowledge of packaging and printing technologies.
  • A self-starter who balances an entrepreneurial drive with pragmatism.
  • A natural collaborator who enjoys being part of a dynamic team.
  • Excellent relationship building and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects
  • Regulatory environment experience – Packaging Covenant and Food Standards Code knowledge is advantageous
  • Willingness to travel to production sites predominantly in NSW, but also to other sites in Australia
  • Creativity and have the ability to work independently
