Our Mount Alford Hatchery recently celebrated 20 years of successful operations since first opening in January 2005.
Located in South East Queensland, Mount Alford has become one of the cornerstones of our poultry production network, consistently delivering over one million day-old chicks each week to farms across the state. This steady supply supports Queensland’s poultry industry and ultimately helps feed Australian families with quality, reliable poultry products.
The anniversary celebration brought together the hatchery team, broiler and compliance teammates, contractors, and senior leadership including Sheridan Alfirevich, General Manager of Farming, and Gary Millar, Queensland Operations Manager. A special highlight was the return of Kenny Holmes, the facility’s original Hatchery Manager, who helped establish the hatchery’s strong foundations two decades ago.
The celebration was an opportunity to recognise the remarkable commitment of team members who’ve helped build Mount Alford’s reputation for excellence. Margaret, who has devoted an impressive 38 years to Inghams, represents the kind of loyalty and expertise that defines our company culture. Brad has contributed 17.5 years at the facility, while Jye exemplifies the growth opportunities available at Inghams – progressing through the ranks over 10 years to become Assistant Manager.
Current Hatchery Manager Steve Murphy reflected on what makes the operation so successful: “This hatchery cannot run without our people. The automation and equipment are impressive, but they’re only as good as the people operating and maintaining them.”
Remarkably, much of the state-of-the-art equipment originally commissioned in 2005 remains in operation today – testament to both the quality of the initial investment and the skill and dedication of the team maintaining it over two decades. In 2024, we invested in upgrading the facility’s HatchTech software technology to further improve temperature and humidity control, continuing to support best practice hatchability and chick welfare.
As Mount Alford enters its third decade, the facility continues to be a vital link in our supply chain, supporting Queensland growers and playing a crucial role in delivering the quality products Australian consumers trust.
Here’s to the next 20 years of excellence at Mount Alford.
