For Stan Gauchan, who joined the Procurement team at Inghams last year, the biggest change to his worklife was team size. Not just the team he’s joined, but the teams at the Australian sites he serves.
In his previous job, for a medical consumables company, Stan was in a team of two.
Now, Stan works for the Australian distribution and processing sites (there are 16) procuring PPE, uniforms, packaging and machine repairs.
“Everyone is nice, and ready to help. And I love the collaboration,” he said. “I enjoy being part of a dynamic team, and a forward-thinking organisation. The work culture is positive, helped by great managers and the meaningful work being undertaken at Inghams.”
His biggest challenge is to do with change. “When you say procurement, you’re trying to sell change to sites. But by spending time on site and building relationships, you learn how you can help by bringing about positive change.”
He’s had success, making significant savings for the the distribution centres. “Previously, each state had its own supplier for stretch film, but we now have one national supplier,” he said. The cost savings and efficiencies speak for themselves.
In his time with Inghams, Stan said it’s been a roller coaster as he’s learnt about Inghams and settled into this procurement role. Previously, he worked in sales and supply chain. But he’s learned a lot with site visits and taking time to understand how the company works and its processes.
Stan’s leader, Max Armaleo, Senior Category Manager, paints a vivid picture of Stan’s journey within the company. “From day one, Stan displayed an unwavering commitment, curiosity and thirst for knowledge, qualities that set him apart in a competitive landscape. And, the positivity and value he adds through his initiatives are a real asset to the team,” he said.
