Inghams achieves AWEI bronze tier status for LGBTQ+ support

We’re pleased to announce Inghams has achieved Bronze Tier Status in the Australian Workplace Equality Index (AWEI), formal recognition that our policies, training, support systems, and LGBTQ+ inclusion framework meet industry standards across Australian operations.

This achievement reflects several years of deliberate, measurable work to create a workplace where our LGBTQ+ employees and allies can be their authentic selves.

Our LGBTQ+ Inclusion Framework

This work has been guided by three key pillars: equal representation and career opportunities, equitable, inclusive and accessible services, and creating safe communities and celebrating inclusion.

Under equal representation and career opportunities, we strengthened our recruitment strategies and updated all People and Performance policies to reinforce equal access to advancement for LGBTQ+ employees, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression. Our parental leave policy was also updated to cover surrogacy, adoption, foster care and kinship arrangements—recognising every pathway to family.

For equitable, inclusive and accessible services, we promoted inclusive wellbeing services for all LGBTQ+ employees and allies. We partnered with ACON’s Pride in Diversity team to deliver training including, ally awareness and pronoun awareness for all employees, trans and gender diverse training for people leaders, and LGBTQ+ HR and recruitment training for HR professionals. We also established a confidential contact network so teammates can reach out to peers for support outside formal HR processes, and published accessible resources on inclusive language and ally support.

Creating safe communities and celebrating inclusion happens through our established Inghams Pride employee network, which coordinates days of recognition like Wear It Purple, provides access to LGBTQ+ inclusion training, and ensures ongoing support from Pride in Diversity and ACON. Our confidential contacts—volunteer employees across all regions—give their time to support teammates with LGBTQ+ non-HR queries. Our people leaders champion this work at site level.

Why This Matters

Leasa Beasley, General Manager Communications and Inclusion, reflected on what the recognition means: “AWEI Bronze validates that our commitment to LGBTQ+ inclusion is real and measurable. But more importantly, it tells our people we’re serious. When employees feel safe to bring their whole selves to work, they bring their full selves to their roles. That’s how we live our purpose to provide deliciously good food in the best way.”

What’s Next

Work is already underway on Inghams’ next AWEI submission, with the next horizon focusing on expanding on achievements and policies now in place. Progress is reported annually, keeping our accountability visible and continuous.
