As part of Inghams’ sponsorship of Taku Wairua’s Tupu (growth) Program, a group of Rangatahi (youth) visited our Springs Road Production Farm and our Te Aroha primary processing plant earlier this year to learn more about career opportunities at Inghams.
Taku Wairua is an organisation which conducts two different programs based on four pillars of wellbeing: Belonging, Self-Discovery, Goal Setting and Citizenship . We sponsor the Tupu (Growth) Program which engages with youth from 15 to 18 years old who aren’t in school, training or employment. The program introduces critical life, social and work skills which will guide them throughout their lives.
This year, we sponsored the largest intake group of Rangatahi since its inception in 2022. As many of the youth reside in the Matamata-Piako district and the surrounding Waikato region, this partnership supports and nurtures our young people, encouraging them to be part of a positive change in our very own community.
The Kura program supports students at primary and intermediate schools and is delivered weekly over one school term. As a sponsor, we were able to select three local schools for the program delivery, which were Te Aroha Primary, Firth Primary and Tatuanui Schools. As part of the program, students hear from guest speakers twice per term on what core values are important to them, and how these helped achieve their goals and guide them through adversity. We are very proud that our leaders took time out to share their experiences on their values such as integrity, honesty, discipline, self-refect and belonging, thank you to Auckland Further Processing Plant Manager, Isaac Flynn; Te Aroha Production Manager, Joan Pennell; and Farming Production Manager, Natasha Kampshof.
Inghams’ Chief Executive, New Zealand, Ed Alexander said: “The Taku Wairua Tupu and Kura programs’ sense of purpose immediately resonated with me, and we wanted to show our support, which has included giving them a behind the scenes tour of our sites to share the career opportunities that are available in the poultry industry. Inghams is a great place to grow your career, and we hope we can support them through these programs both as they develop throughout their primary and high school education and, if we’re lucky, one day welcome them to the Inghams’ team.”
Inghams’ sponsorship of the Taku Wairua’s Tupu program commenced in FY24. Engaging with local communities aligns to our brand promise to be Always Good to our people and the communities where we work.
